Online Again

E-mail Print PDF

Phew! Finally online again with our Albin website!

On 23 May 2011 Murphy and his law were on duty: The servers of our povider broke down. And the other day they told us that also their backup servers had major failures. It was not possible to restore our backups. They told us that they were very sorry, but no chance to get back the old data. Instead they offered a free upgrade to more webspace. Aha.

As we perform regular automatic backups on the servers of our provider, I had ("of course" I'd like to say) no local backup on my computer.

A couple of days later we got the message that they could get back most of the data and sent me huge zip file. Jack of all trades, and master of none as I am (or: a specialist for everything, as we say here), I had no idea how I could get back the data from the database that was within the zipped file.

To cut it short: After hours of reading in newsgroups I am finally also a "Jack of the trade of databases".

Here we are back online!

Sorry that we were not available for 3 weeks. I think I have learned my lesson.

Many news are waiting: Major modifications to our watermaker, a short report of our annual "Spring Trip", new modifications to Dido, pictures from other Albin owner who sent me material, and many more.

Allow me a few more days to put them online! Now I need a holiday weekend to get rid of SQL in my head.

The Idea

Albin25.eu came into being when a former Albin owner - Craig - sold his A25AK Salena. Maybe you have been redirected from his former website albin25.co.uk, which will be down soon. He had tons of photos on his website, which were of fantastic use for us when we were looking for our Albin. Before his server went down he sent me a copy of his website and installed a pointer to here, www.albin25.eu. Most of the information from his site you will now find here.

Apart from that heritage you will find our own history of boating here, and especially our Albin 25 AK "Dido", the documentation of the modifications that we made, our trips with her, and some more things related to these issues. Furthermore, I plan to maintain this site in English, as there is an awful lot of information available on Albin related sites, however they are Dutch, Swedish, Danish, all languages none of which I speak.

My native language is German. Thus I'd really appreciate if you helped me to extinguish Germanisms and various other idiomatic oddities.

Should you know or have any material or hint what should be published here, I would really appreciate if you'd contact me (there is a contact menu on the left hand side.)

We are Andreas & Hilde with three Kids (Achill, Medea, Iphi) and our Albin 25 AK "Dido", #1178. We live close to Vienna, Austria. Most time of the year Dido is berthed on the river Danube. More or less the whole summer we spend on the Adriatic.

About This Site

E-mail Print PDF

A lot of this material here - especially the photos of the "Mega Picture Index - was collected by the former owner of A25AK "Salena" who meanwhile has sold her and now owns a different brand. So, he stopped supporting his Albin-site.

I am very glad that he did not simply delete all the files but allowed to download them so that they are also available in future.

Thank you, Craig!

I shall host this site and - as my other activities will allow - also maintain it.

If you have or know anything that should be available here or linked to from here, please let me know.

Mail to: webmaster(at)albin25.eu (there is no direct e-mail link due to spam attacks).
